TO: Special Education Directors
FROM: John Eisenberg, Assistant Superintendent, Special Education and Student Services
SUBJECT: Family Involvement Month
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), Division of Special Education and Student Services (SESS) recognizes that families are instrumental in helping children reach their full potential. As such, VDOE and SEES, in collaboration with other agencies involved in helping families with issues related to the education of their children, asked that Governor Terrence McAuliffe recognize November 2014 as Family Involvement in Education Month in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are pleased to announce that the Governor has signed a Certificate of Recognition in response to our request. Additionally, the Virginia State Board of Education has signed a Resolution of Recognition to commemorate November 2014 as Family Involvement in Education Month. Furthermore, VDOE and SESS have prepared a promotional flyer which contains a list of Web site links to resources for you to review and utilize in planning family involvement activities within your division throughout November and the remainder of the 2014-2015 school year. A PDF copy of the Governor’s Certificate of Recognition, the Board’s Resolution of Recognition, and the Families and Schools – Perfect Partners for Student Successflyer are attached for your review.
