$10 Free vegetables for WIC clients at farmers markets

Free vegetables for WIC clients at farmers markets through the WIC Produce Pack program. Modified for covid-19, this simplified food access program gives any WIC cardholder a coupon for $10 free vegetables at participating farmers markets [Spotsylvania, SRMC, FXBG, Rt 639 and Bowling Green].
These coupons will replace the usual green Produce Pack bag distribution at WIC Clinic visits. [Virginia Community Food Connections, working with local partners, in the summer months normally provides WIC Produce Packs, green bags containing samples of seasonal produce and nutrition education, with 3 free refills at farmers markets]
To continue access to healthy produce for WIC families, VCFC will utilize Community Relief funds to provide free vegetables for WIC clients at farmers markets, opening the program to more WIC families than in previous years.
Here are the program highlights:

  • Open to anyone with a WIC card
  • Come each week, while supplies last
  • Each Produce Pack coupon value is $10 in vegetables [no cash value]
  • Produce Packs will include all vegetables, [not vegetables and fruit]
    • Go to a participating farmers market
    •  Visit the Market Token tent to get a coupon for $10 free vegetables
    • Show your WIC card and answer 4 short questions
    • Take the coupon to vegetable producer with a WIC sign
    • Tell the producer what vegetables you would like, up to $10
    • Limited time offer, no cash value
